Once you stop learning, you start dying.
Millennials are the generation that ended up smack dab in the middle of whatever “before and after” really was. We grew up knowing what it was like not to have, and smoothly transitioned into the rapid growth of technology. So for Hip Hop lovers particularly of before our time, I personally seek those who find value in teaching the significance as well as the ins and outs of the craft they love. That way, we can carry the torch.
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels
But on Wednesday February 1st 2017, to commence the first day of
Black History Month, Whoopi Goldberg, Darryl DMC McDaniels, Timothy White did just that by Hosting “Parental Advisory: Explicit Images A Hip-Hop Event.”
I had arrived just in time to catch the very beginning of DMC’s performance and like a kid in a candy store I was so amazed!
A true history lesson to say the least, DMC went over some of his most popular songs like “Rock This Way” and a personal favorite of mine “It’s Tricky”
The stage was aligned with imagery of the most iconic Hip-Hop legends, the exhibition and sale pays tribute to the artists, photographers and generations of fans. Other performances included rising Hip Hop artist Mason Dean & Decora.
Curated by Timothy White and featuring photographs by White, Danny Clinch,Janette Beckman, Clay Patrick McBride, Lynn Goldsmith and others. These brilliant images are being exhibited at Morrison Hotel Gallery’s loft in SoHo through the month of February and can also be purchased online HERE.

Being able to witness such a solid piece of history in music, the feeling is practically indescribable. I’m beyond grateful to be a part. In order to continue on any legacy, fans alike must still and always stay willing to learn. So as it goes for me, I’ll always show up for class! Be sure to check out The Morrison Hotel Gallery before this month is gone.
